Marcio Passos de Albuquerque, also known as Emerson, is a professional football from Brazil who plays as a striker. Emerson holds a dual-citizenship, with Qatar, and after having played for the Brazilian Under-20 national team, he chose to play at the senior level for Qatar.
Emerson began his playing career at the youth division at Sao Paolo, in 1996. After two seasons with the youth academy, Emerson moved into the first team, but failed to make any kind of impact. He only made 11 appearances over two seasons, scoring twice, before moving on to Consadole Sapporo in the Japanese League. His first stint in Japan was a fruitful effort, with 31 goals in 34 games putting him on the map.
In 2001, he moved to Kawasaki Frontale for 18 games, scoring 19 goals, and then on to Urawa Red Diamonds. Over the next four seasons, he played 100 league games for Urawa, scoring 71 goals and earning himself a stint in Qatar, with Al-Sadd. From 2005 to 2007, Emerson played 32 times for the Qatari line-up, scoring 24 goals to earn a place in the French first division.
However, his stint with Stade Rennais wasn’t profitable as he only managed to get three games over 2007-08. In 2008-09, Emerson returned to Al-Sadd but injury kept him out of action for most of the season. He moved back to Flamengo, in 2009, and half-a-season later, moved back to Qatar to sign with Al Ain FC. In 2010-11, he returned to Brazil to play for Fluminense, and after 12 games and 8 goals for the team, he moved on to sign with Corinthians.
Since moving to the Corinthians, Emerson has played almost 33 games, scoring seven times, for the defending Serie A champions.
