Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is a France international football player who currently features for the Premier League club Newcastle United. He plays as a central defender.
Yanga-Mbiwa commenced his professional club football career at French club Montpellier and was part of the first team between 2007 and 2013. He was actually born in Bangui, Central African Republic, but moved to France when he was a toddler.
Yanga-Mbiwa proved himself to be a very promising player while at Montpellier and won the Ligue 1 title with them in 2011-12. He made a total of 186 league appearances for the club, scoring four goals in the process before joining Newcastle United on a five-and-a-half year contract in January 2013.
Yanga-Mbiwa, who has dual citizenship, made his international debut for France in 2012 but was not called up for the final 23-man squad for the Euro 2012 finals.
