Hajime Hosogai is a football player from Japan born on 10th June 1986 in Maebashi, Gunma, Japan. He is currently playing for Bundesliga side, FC Augsburg on loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He is a versatile player, able to play both as a defensive midfielder, right wing as well as defender.
Hosogai commenced his youth career in 1999 with FC Maebashi and moved to Maebashi Ikuel High School in 2002. His senior career began with Urawa Red Diamonds in 2005. He was considered as one of the most promising players of the club. He played a crucial role in helping the Red Diamonds to win AFC Champions League in 2007 and has also played at the FIFA Club World Cup for Urawa in 2007. On December 23, 2010 he left Urawa to join German club, Bayer 04 Leverkusen who quickly loaned him to FC Augsburg.
The Japan National Football team has been represented by Hosogai at various youth levels. He was a member of the team of Japan for the summer Olympics finals in 2008. He made his debut for the National team of Japan on 4 September 2010 in a friendly match against Paraguay. His first goal for the senior national team has been scored on 25 January 2011 in a semi-final match of AFC Asian Cup 2011 against South Korea.
