Born in Argentina, Lucas Barrios is a professional Paraguayan football player who plays as a striker. Aka Lucas Ramon Barrios Caceres, Lucas is known as “La Pantera” or “the Panther”. Barrios began his playing career at Argentinos Juniors, in 2003.

Sent out for a majority of the 2004 season, Barrios appeared 16 times for Club Atletico Tigre, in Chile. He moved to Deportivo Temuco, after being released by Argentinos Juniors, following dismal performances. 12 goals in 28 games were enough to earn Barrios a call to Tiro Federal, a massive Argentine football team. However, 2006 was not a good year for Barrios as he failed to shine in the Federal shirt.

He moved to Club de Deportes Cobreloa, in 2006-07, and had his first massive season as a goalscorer. Barrios scored 26 goals in 39 games, a prolific season that led to many good things. He was immediately picked up by Atlas, in Mexico, but Barrios’ run of form was halted. He moved back to Chile and Colo Colo, returning with an even better two seasons in the Chilean League.

Barrios scored 53 goals in 56 games, and earned a call-up from Europe. The entire world had noticed the talent of this fantastic player but Borussia Dortmund were the first to get his signature. Barrios has been a major contributor to the team’s high-flying position in the league at the moment. His first season in Germany saw him score 19 goals, the third highest in the country. He has scored 35 goals in 66 appearances, for Dortmund, in all competition so far.

Career Highlights

Whilst with the Colo-Colo team, Barrios and his team won the Chilean Primera Division title in 2008. Moreover. with Borussia Dortmund team, he won the Bundesliga twice, in 2010-11 and in 2011-12 season. Other than this title, h is team won the DFB-Pokal title in 2011-12. Individually, Barrios was the top scorer of the Chilean Primera Division in 2008 Apertura and 2008 Clausura. Other than this title, he was the IFFHS World’s Best top division goal scorer in 2008. Recently, in 2010, he was awarded the Paraguayan footballer of the year.
