Peter Andrew Beardsley MBE is a retired professional football player who is best known for his career during the 1980s and the 1990s. Beardsley was born on January 18, 1961 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and was once known for setting the record transfer fee in the history of the game. Plus, he was also known for representing his country 59 times between 1986 and 1996.

Beardsley is a product of the well known Wallsend Boys Club that is located in North Tyneside. Although he played well when he was still a teenager, he was released by his hometown club so he could begin his professional career in 1978 and sign up with Carlisle United. Sometime during a transfer to Canada, Beardsley was not exactly able to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps since Ron Atkinson paid a whopping 250,000 pounds for him to sign with Manchester United.

Unfortunately, Beardsley was just able to make one appearance for the club during a Football League Cup tie when going against AFC Bournemouth. Beardsley was then transferred to Vancouver, but once again was cut short because he was transferred to Newcastle.

Throughout his career, Beardsley was able to play in numerous well know clubs, including Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Fulham, and Harlepool United. It was with the Melbourne Knights, however, that Beardsley played his last 2 games before retiring in 1999.

Beardsley was also an active player in the international scene where he was able to make 59 appearances for England in a span of 10 years, and score 9 goals. After retiring from the sport Beardsley was able to work for a short time for England’s national team before moving on to other options.
