Ruben Filipe Marques Amorimimage: Ruben Filipe Marques Amorim | Ruben Filipe Marques Amorim is a Portuguese professional football player who at present plays for the S.L. Benfica as a midfielder. Born in Lisbon in Portugal, Ruben stands five feet eleven inches tall. His style of playing is similar to that of Tiago, both playing at the same position and operating as a central midfield. Both the players play in defensive as well as offensive players.
Ruben started his youth years playing football for Benfica from 1998-1999 and for Belenenses team from 2000-03. In 2003, he made his debut in the first division of the national team and played for one minute for C.F.Os Belenenses with a 2-0 home victory against F.C. Alverca. It was from 2005-06 onwards, that he started playing for the squad.
Amorim played for the national team at the UEFA European under 21 football championships in 2007 in the Netherlands. However, the team lost to Italy in the finals for the next year’s Summer Olympic Games. In 2010, Ruben was named as a backup list of six players, though he was not a part of the senior squad’s list of 23 players for the FIFA World cup in 2010. He replaced Nani, after the latter sustained a clavicle injury which ruled him out of the finals held in South Africa. His senior debut was on 15th June, when he played for the last five minutes of the group stage opener replacing Raul Meireles against Cote d’lvoire with 0-0. For Amorim, 2010 proved to be a memorable year, and with his consistency and versatility, he played a key role and helped the Lisbon club achieve the Portuguese title and the League cup too.
