Daniel Márcio Fernandesimage:Daniel Márcio Fernandes |Daniel Márcio Fernandes is a Portuguese-Canadian football player who at present plays for Panathinaikos F.C for whom he is playing on loan basis from VFL Bochum. Born in Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, Daniel was raised in East Vancouver, B.C.

Daniel had previously appeared for Canada team at under 20 level and changed to play for Portugal making his under 21 debut in 2006. He received his first senior selection in 2006 as a third goalkeeper after Quim and Ricardo. In 2007, he received a call to play for the team though he played as unused bench. Later on, the same year, he received another call for the Euro 2008 qualifier with Belgium team as the opponent team and in a friendly matche against Kuwait. On 5th June 2007, he made his senior debut substituting Quim in the 66th minute. This match ended with a 1-1 draw with Kuwait team. In occasional basis, he received calls as a backup goal keeper, but was ruled out from the squad in September 2008 against Malta team.

The following year, in 2009, he played his second international match against Finland team replacing Eduardo in the 60th minute. Portugal team won the match by 1-0. The same year, in the month of March, Daniel played as an unused bench against Sweden receiving his last call-up in June against Estonia team. He lost his place as a second or third goalkeeper as the coach called other goalkeepers like Henrique Hilario, Jose Moreira and even Rui Patricia and Beto. However, Fernandes was named as one of the goalkeeper in the 23 men squad of the FIFA World Cup in 2010.

Some of the major teams for whom Daniel plays football were Celta de Vigo B (2002 -03), PAOK (2004-08) and VfL Bochum (2008-10).
