Raul Meireles is a Portuguese football player who presently plays for Liverpool in the Premier League. He plays as an all round defensive or central midfielder, with excellent long range shooting.

Raul made his international debut with Portugal national football team in 2006 and was part of the squad in 2008 UEFA Euro, where he scored a late goal as a substitute against Turkey team with 2-0 victory on 7th June 2008.

Raul established in the starting XI for the FIFA World Cup 2010 qualification, where he scored the only goal in Zenica, as Portugal defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also qualified for the final stages in South Africa. Meireles started the game in the final stages, on 21st June, after he scored the first goal in 7-0 group stage of the team routing North Korea in Cape Town.

Some of his major teams include Boavista FC from 2003 to 2004 and Desportivo Aves from 2001 to 2003.

Career Highlights

Raul achieved tremendous success with the club and the team achieved Portuguese League in 2005–06, 2006–07, 2007–08 and 2008–09. The team received Portuguese Cup in 2005–06, 2008–09 and 2009–10. Other than that, the team received the Portuguese Supercup in 2006, 2009 and in 2010.

Raul and his team received UEFA European under 16 football championship in 2000.
