David Villa is arguably Valencia’s most valuable asset and has been touted to leave the Mestalla this summer. The likes of FC Barcelona and Chelsea are hovering in the near distance for the player but it seems that Real Madrid are heading the pack chasing for the cherry.

According to reports emanating from Spain, Real Madrid still aspire to sign the player for 40 million euros. Valencia are supposedly in need of cash which Real have in plenty and it has been reported in the Spanish press that should Real president Ramon Calderon fail in his effort to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, then he would sign David Villa from Valenica before the start of the 2008-2009 season.
