Arsenal drew 1-1 with newly crowned Champions Manchester United in an erratic display of football by both sides at the Emirates late on Sunday.
However, the loss of two points is going to hurt Arsenal in their quest for a top 4 finish way more than it is going to hurt United, who have nothing left to play for in this season.
The home team started the match positively with a purpose that resulted in a marvelous finish by Theo Walcott for the first goal of the match only in the second minute.
Tomas Rosicky provided a slick pass to Walcott slicing through the United back four and the Englishman did not miss from a very tight angle.
But instead of capitalizing on the significantly lackluster display by the Red Devils in the first half, the Gunners chose to sit back and not press for that crucial second goal.
The visitors replied in the last few minutes of the first half with a superb penalty taken by former Arsenal man and current United talisman Robin van Persie, after he was tripped by defender Bacary Sagna.
As a mark of respect to his former club, van Persie chose to not celebrate the goal, though the boos of the Arsenal supporters only got louder.
The second half began with more promise for the visitors as a few sharp movements troubled Arsenal keeper Szczesny, but none of them could be converted into a goal.
As the half progressed, both sides slipped into a monotony of meaningless passing with not much intent to shoot or score.
With this draw, Arsenal drop down one place in the league table to fourth, only two points ahead of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur who have played a game less than Arsenal.
Manager Arsene Wenger needs to make sure his side do not drop any more points if they wish to play in the Champions League next season.
