Runaway league leaders Manchester United won their twentieth League title with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford in Manchester late last night.

Striker Robin van Persie, who has been phenomenal for United during the entire season, scored a stylish hat-trick in the first half of the match to lead his club to Premier League glory.

The Red Devils started the match on the front foot and scored their first of three goals within two minutes of kick-off.

Club legend Ryan Giggs set up an easy tap-in for the Dutch striker to open his tab for the evening. The next goal came in the thirteenth minute from a sublime move with Wayne Rooney setting up van Persie with a through pass, as the “man of the hour” sent it goal-wards with a splendid left-foot volley, for a goal that will surely be a contender for “goal of the season”.

The Dutchman then scored his twenty-fourth goal of the season and third of the match with a gentle prod from a Giggs’ pass in the thirty-third minute. An action-packed second half, however, resulted in no goals scored by either side, and the match ended 3-0, to thunderous cheers and shouting of “Champions!” from the home supporters.

While Sir Alex Ferguson was celebrating another feather in his cap, Villa manager Paul Lambert has something to think about as his side is just safe of the relegation zone in the seventeenth place at the moment.

However, Wigan Athletic, at eighteenth place, has one more game in hand than Villa and therefore Villa’s next crunch match against Sunderland would most likely determine their fate in the Premier League.

This match is a must-win if the Villans hope to continue their run in the top English league and star striker Christian Benteke needs to be in top form for the encounter next Monday.
