Pereira: That's The Porto I Want

FC Porto boss Vitor Pereira admits he’s disappointing his side couldn’t get a second goal in Tuesday’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League triumph over Malaga but says he’s happy with the performance.

Joao Moutinho netted the game’s only goal on 56 minutes to clinch the smallest of advantages ahead of the second leg in Spain.

“That’s the Porto I want: a team that puts on pressure, that wants to control the game, that wants to score,” Pereira said.

“I’m just sorry that we could not score the second. The difference between the Champions League and other competitions is that an error, a moment where we are not well positioned, could be a moment when the opponent scores, so it was very important not to concede here at home. We were a united and consistent team.”

Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini was left disappointed by his side’s blunt attack.

“We played badly offensively. We are not happy with the game. At no point did we feel we clicked,” he said.

“Having said that, with all of the possession that Porto had, they didn’t cause us that much damage. Our opponents do deserve credit, however, as they squeezed us out of the match.”
