Manchester United will host Southampton at Old Trafford on January 30, at 2000 GMT. Manchester United will enter this game on the back of a 11 game unbeaten run.
History between these sides says that the Saints have a grim chance of getting anything out of this game as they have been unable to beat United at Old Trafford.
United will welcome Robin van Persie back to the side after he was rested for the FA Cup clash over the weekend. It was his hat-trick that sunk the Saints earlier in the season after they took the lead twice in the game.
Saints will miss Do Pardo, Jose Fonte and Adam Lallana due to injury and will be heavily reliant on the form of forward Rickie Lambert who has netted ten times thus far. Gaston Ramirez will also prove to be handful with his trickery in the middle of the pitch. Lallana is moving towards full recovery but could be fit to only take the bench.
Manchester United will see long term absentee Darren Fletcher miss out on this game while Ashley Young is expected to recover in time.
This game is heavily one sided on paper and with a strike partnership of Wayne Rooney and Van Persie, who have a very strong midfield to back them up should see Sir Alex Ferguson’s team easily trample all over their opposition for the night.
The Red Devils sit pretty at the top of the table with a five point gap between them and their second placed arch rivals Manchester City. A win in this game should keep them comfortable while a drop in points once again will throw the race for the title wide open.
This game will be a perfect opportunity for the Southampton new boss, Mauricio Pochettino to prove a point and prove to the fans that he is the right man for the job after replacing Nigel Adkins.
Prediction: Manchester United 4-0 Southampton
