German big fish Bayern Munich have snapped up Pep Guardiola as their next manager from the coming season.
Pep Guardiola is all set to take over as the new boss of Bayern Munich at the end of the season, the German Bundesliga club have confirmed.
Guardiola who was on a sabbatical after leaving Barcelona earlier in the season has finally ended all speculation as he has put pen to paper signing a three-year deal. The Spanish wizard has been linked with most of Europe’s elite clubs after he left Barcelona at the end of last season.
Bayern Munich emerged as favourites in recent weeks and finalised the deal as soon as they could.
The current boss of Bayern, Jupp Heynckes stated that he was ready to retire at the end of the season after which the board wasted no time to get Guardiola to sign in Heynckes place.
Chief executive of the club Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “We are very pleased that we have succeeded in getting Pep Guardiola, who was courted by many famous clubs. Pep Guardiola is one of the most successful coaches in the world. We look forward to working with him from July 2013.”
In the four years as the manger of Barcelona, he ended up winning an impressive 14 trophies which included three La Liga titles, two Champions League titles.
The chairman of Bayern Munich said, “We are extremely grateful for Jupp Heynckes’ work, and we would be very happy if the team would give this great coach a glorious farewell. As an adequate replacement for Jupp Heynckes only Pep Guardiola was of the right calibre.”
This will be a new test for Guardiola and as he will be taking over an equally strong team but will be managing a league that he has no previous direct affiliation with.
