Lionel Messi may have been crowned the world’s best footballer earlier this week when he won the Ballon d’Or but he says he’d trade that for the World Cup.
The 25-year-old Barcelona attacker capped his stunning 2012, where he scored a world record 91 goals, with his fourth ever Ballon d’Or.
However, Messi is yet to win any major silverware on the international scene and he’d love nothing more than to lift the World Cup with Argentina.
“Winning the World Cup is what is missing. The truth is, yes, I would swap a Ballon d’Or for the World Cup, I’ve always felt like that. Nothing compares with being world champion,” Messi said according to The Sun.
“I want to achieve things with Barcelona and with my country, which I’ve always said is my dream.”
Messi won the award with 41 per cent of the vote, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta.
