Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis says the club have held positive talks with star striker Robin van Persie about committing to the Gunners.
The Dutchman, who won the PFA player of the season last term, sees his current contract at the Emirates expire at the end of the 2012-13 season, prompting plenty of interest in his services.
Arsenal are hopeful of van Persie re-signing with the club and Gazidis revealed on the club’s website, while they wouldn’t disclose information about the current state of talks, things were positive.
“Robin sat down with us at the end of the season and we had a good discussion,” Gazidis said.
“What we agreed at that meeting was that we would keep all the discussions we had over the summer to ourselves and make announcements when it is the right time.
“We have to respect the fact we have agreed to keep that among ourselves. Robin is clearly focused on the Euros at the moment and we wish him well, and at the right time we will make the right announcements. But at the moment we are not saying anything.”
