Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester City are the clear title favourites now but remains optimistic his side can lift the trophy.
City remain ahead of United with a goal difference lead of a 10-goal differential, following both sides’ 2-0 wins over Newcastle and Swansea respectively on Sunday.
The leaders host relegation battlers QPR on the final day, while United are away to Sunderland.
“You have to think there’s still hope. QPR have to go to City and survive. To stay up in the Premier League they need a point,” Ferguson said.
“Of course, City are favourites – there’s no doubt about it. The crowd will be behind them, they’ll be into the referee as they were against us. They’ll be doing their best to win the game.”
He added: “QPR are fighting for their lives, though, and you have to think a team in that position has a chance. I just wish Sparky (QPR manager Mark Hughes) was playing!”
Ferguson continued that he was happy with his side’s showing against the Swans, following City’s earlier win which may have taken the winds out of their sails.
“It could have been one of these days where their heads were down a little bit,” Ferguson said. “But they played with good professionalism and they enjoyed it. They did well and showed good enthusiasm. I’m satisfied with the attitude of the players. It’s a decent result for us.”
