Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says his side needs to enjoy its position at the top of the table after defeating Aston Villa 4-0 on Sunday to move five points clear again, although he admits its not over yet.

United eased past the Villans to quell fears of a late season charge from their nearest rivals Manchester City who move within two points after their impressive 6-1 thrashing of Norwich City.

“There could be twists and turns yet,” Ferguson admitted, before adding. “I think the name of the game now is for us to enjoy ourselves and play with expression, like we did today. Hopefully we’ll be alright.

“You can never be too confident in this game of football. My experience tells me there’s always something can bite you on the bum but hopefully we can avoid that and not drop any more points.”

Indeed, the 4-0 win over Villa was the kind of statement United needed to make after City’s emphatic result, while they’re one game closer to the title.

“It’s one game less today and that’s what I’ll take out of the game. We’ve won our game with a good performance, which is important at this time of year,” he said.

“The players accepted the fact they lost a game on Wednesday and did something about it. No panic. We played our own game and I’m pleased about that.”
