There’s a host of exciting match-ups this weekend with big clubs taking one another while title hopes afe on the line for Manchester City, AC Milan, Barcelona and PSG.
Sports Pundit’s Game of the Weekend
English Premier League, Sunday 4pm (CET)
Arsene Wenger may not think so, but this clash will be critically important for Manchester City’s fading title aspirations. The Sky Blues dropped points again last weekend, to slip further behind Manchester United who face QPR earlier in the day. Arsenal’s own Champions League hopes are on the line too, after losing to QPR last weekend.
Italian Serie A, 2pm (CET)
Milan saw their lead atop Serie A cut to two points last weekend, after their draw at Catania. Juventus remain hot on their heels. Now they play host to Fiorentina who are struggling this term, sitting down near the drop zone in 17th. They haven’t won for some time but need to do so, to ward off the threat of the drop.
Spanish La Liga, Saturday 7pm (CET)
Relegation embattled Zaragoza appeared doomed a few weeks ago, but their recent heroics, which includes three wins on the trot, has catapulted them towards safety. They are one of La Liga’s in-form sides but playing host to champions Barcelona on Saturday is a tough ask. Barca’s midweek Champions League win over AC Milan wasn’t easy, but Lionel Messi’s double proved vital. Barca must win to keep the pressure on Real Madrid who are still six points clear.
PSG v Olympique Marseille
French Ligue 1, Sunday 8pm (CET)
Coming into this season you might have thought this would be a clash between two of France’s genuine title contenders but it’s all gone wrong for Didier Deschamps’s OM domestically. They were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek and need to reverse their awful domestic form which has them in midtable after a long winless streak. PSG, meanwhile, in the hunt for the title, level on points at the top with Montpellier.
Spanish La Liga, Sunday 8.30pm (CET)
With second-placed Barcelona playing the day before Real, the pressure could be on the league leaders on Sunday. And they haven’t got an easy task, playing host to Valencia who are sitting third in La Liga. However Valencia have had their own issues of late and their Champions League hopes are slipping. Real’s blip last month is now a faint memory but they won’t want anymore slipups before the second El Clasico.
