Bayern Munich will look to end a dreadful run of results following the winter break in the Bundes Liga and get back to winning ways this weekend. However, it will not be an easy task as they host an in form Schalke at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Title rivals Borussia Dortmund, the defending champions who are leading the charts have much easier opponents in Hannover who will need a lot of luck to get a result at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.
Bayern have had a very poor run of form since the start of the second half of the campaign following the break in Germany. It is not exactly clear why Bayern have suffered as most of their players are fit and their main players have been on the pitch. Bastian Schweinsteiger is back in a lineup following a lengthy break while the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Mario Gomez and Toni Kroos are all fit and fine.
There have been some problems defensively as a young pairing of Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber have struggled sometimes, although they are much better players now than they were at the start of the season. The wing backs – Philipp Lahm and Rafinha have not really been impressive though. Thomas Muller has been missing a few games which is a definite cause for concern.
However, with so much quality in the lineup, I am expecting the Bavarian giants to turn things around for themselves. The away defeat to Basel in the Champions League would certainly make Bayern hungry for success. This team was playing some awe-inspiring football until December and it will take a fool to bet against the most successful club in the history of German football.
Schalke have had their problems but their defensive frailties have been negated by an in-form strike partnership of Klaas Jan Huntelaar and former Real Madrid great Raul Gonzalez. The likes of Jurado have been playing well in the middle of the park where they have impressed while Benedikt Howedes continues to put in great performances at the back for the Blues.
Dortmund on the other hand will look to welcome Mario Gotze back in the side after an injury layoff. Mats Hummels will look to improve his performance at the center of defense alongside Neven Subotic after a horror show in midweek in the Europa League.
Shinji Kagawa, Sven Bender, Robert Lewandowski and Lucas Barrios are all available for selection. Club captain Sebastiah Kehl has also penned a contract extension this week and will look to celebrate with a stellar show.
