Manchester City v Manchester United Player Ratings (Manchester United)
Anders Lindegaard – 6.5 The Dane, who initially made a near perfect start to his career at United has looked increasingly shaky between the sticks. He was jittery against Newcastle and was not better against City. Literally leaked a goal, although he made a few decent saves. Looked susceptible to be honest though.
Phil Jones – 8 This youngster is fast becoming the master at comebacks. After a dreadful match at Newcastle, he was shifted to right back, where he was great. Imposed his physicality a number of times and broke down the opponents game on a number of occasions. Jones was a tad untidy with his distribution though.
Rio Ferdinand – 5.5 This guy is past it. It was clean from his display last evening. Ferdinand is expected to bring some stability to the Red Devil’s defense. However, his presence yielded quite the opposite of what is expected of him. I won’t be surprised if he is axed from the England squad in favor of Gary Cahill – someone younger.
Chris Smalling – 7.5 Smalling was rushed into action sooner than expected to cover for a United defence that is suffering from a terrible injury crisis. Performed well throughout the match. He could be proud of his display.
Patrice Evra – 6.5 The United skipper was brilliant in the first half as City allowed him to go forward. Provided the assist for Welbeck’s brilliant goal in the first half. In the second half though, his defending was exposed by City who beat him for pace on a number of occasions.
Antonio Valencia – 9.5 An outstanding performance from the Ecuadorian winger. Beat Kolarov every time that he took him on in the first half. Valencia provided some amazing crosses – one of which was converted by Rooney for the opener in the 10th minute.
Michael Carrick – 7 A tidy display from the United midfielder, however, he did not get into the grove as he was afraid to make passes more than seven yards. The Carrick of old, who would rip defenses apart with brilliant through balls, is sadly missing.
Ryan Giggs – 8 Dictated the match in the first half – which yielded 3 goals for United that won the match. Giggs is still one of the best if not the best at United.
Nani – 6 Looked dangerous initially. However, started to wither away. Sloppy passes and some poor touches on the ball characterized his game. Outraged City fans after succeeding to get Vinvent Kompany sent off.
Wayne Rooney – 9.5 The man was everywhere for United. There are few better than him in the business of football and he showed that with a couple of goals against the noisy neighbors. Rising to the occasion, anybody?
Danny Welbeck – 8.5 Was a lively performance from the England hopeful in which he netted the goal of the game for United. Showed why Berbatov and Chicharito have been relegated to the bench.
Paul Scholes – 7 Oh Yes he is back. This ain’t any error. One misplaced pass that led to an opposition goal. The usual mistimed tackle that avoided a booking. 97 percent success rate in his passing.
Anderson – 6 A poor outing for the Brazilian. This man needs game time badly and it showed against City.
