GK Michael Rensing – 6 The former Bayern Munich shotstopper was not really at fault for the three goals he conceded. However, he will be bitterly disappointed with his defense as well as himself to have conceded three preventable goals.
RB Henrique Sereno Fonseca – 7.5 This guy managed to get under the skin of Ribery and got the Frenchman sent off after an altercation. Was solid in defence all night. He did what was necessary at the back without much fuss.
CB Miso Brecko – 5.5 Picked up an injury that saw him being substituted in the 15th minute of the game. Was quite good until then.
CB Ammar Jemal – 6 Started the game strongly in the first half and heckled Bayern whenever they got on to the ball. However, his confidence was dented after the break when he was held off far too easily by Thomas Muller before allowing a soft second goal from Toni Kroos’ corner kick.
CB Kevin McKenna – 8 It was a wonderful performance from the American defender who should feel unlucky to finish on the losing side despite his efforts. Was also deployed as a center forward to good effect in the second half.
LB Pedro Geromel – 6.5 Was absolutely phenomenal in the first half as he stopped two efforts on goal – one from Arjen Robben and the other from Ribery on the post. However, his good work was undone in the second half as it was his misplaced pass that led to Bayern’s opener.
DM Sascha Riether – 6 Played the role of the defensive midfielder in front of Koln’s five man defense. Did a decent enough job in the first half as he broke down the opposition’s play with aplomb. However, his passing in attack left a lot to the senses. Was responsible for letting David Alaba free for the second goal of the match which killed the tie as a contest.
RM Slawomir Peszko – 5 Off target to start with and that was perhaps his only contribution to the game as he conceded freekicks in dangerous areas and got himself booked after repeated fouling.
LM Mato Jajalo – 6.5 The Croatian was absent at the start of the match and came into his own in the second half of the match. Had a couple of decent chances at goal, but he could not convert them, which made no difference to the score line.
AM Christian Clemens – 6 Worked his socks off in the first half as he helped out his teammates at the back in numerous occasions. However, left much to be desired as far as the attacking part of his game was concerned. Taken off in the 70th minute and rightly so.
ST Lukas Podolski – 5 The former Bayern Munich forward has been enjoying a prolific run in front of goal recently. However, he had an off day with no service to him up front and he clearly failed to conjure up any chance by himself.
Substitutions
CB Tomoaki Makino – 5.5 Replaced the injured Brecko in the first half. Was good defensively in the first half. Second half – the lesser said, the better.
AM Odise Roshi – 4 Made no difference at all.
ST Sebastian Freis – N/A Replaced Podolski. Failed to do anything different for Koln.
