FC Zurich vs. Vaslui: Europa League Betting Preview
Well worth chancing Romanian side Vaslui on Wednesday as the Europa League group stage reaches its climax.
There aren’t too many meaningful fixtures taking place in midweek, with plenty of sides having already secured their place in the last 32, but the clash in Zurich is one and the visitors are tipped to get the win they need to advance.
It is a straight fight in Group D between Vasuli, third in Liga I last season, and Italian giants Lazio but it is the Romanians that are in pole position and victory will send them through to the knockout stages.
Vaslui, levels on points with the Rome club, boast the better head-to-head record and it would be a significant achievement were they to advance. A win is almost certainly required however, Lazio host runaway leaders Sporting Lisbon, who have nothing to play for, and I think Vaslui will get it.
Vaslui face an FC Zurich outfit that has struggled badly in the Europa League this term and Urs Fischer’s men are performing poorly domestically too.
Just two wins, in nine matches, all season at home sees them languishing in eighth place in the ten team Swiss Super League and, with only pride at stake, it is not hard to imagine the home team offering little resistance - especially as their domestic competition has just entered its winter break.
There’s probably not much to choose between the pair but Vaslui have demonstrated their capabilities with a win over the Portuguese, as well as holding Lazio twice, crucially, perhaps, 2-2 in the Stadio Olimpico, and with all the motivation to succeed the 2.40 about an away win has to be snapped up.
Zurich are far removed from the team that finished second last term domestically to qualify for Europe and just six triumphs in their previous 23 games in all competitions hardly inspires confidence.
2pts Back Vaslui (vs. FC Zurich) @ 2.40 (VC Bet)
