The big match this weekend in the Barclays Premier League will be between Chelsea and Liverpool as the two biggies cross swords at Stamford Bridge in London on Sunday afternoon.
Chelsea have had a bad time this season after losing some matches and winning some in unconvincing fashion. Their 5-3 defeat at the hands of fellow London club Arsenal in the Premier League would have hurt a fair bit and Chelsea have been unconvincing ever since.
Frank Lampard has been their best player this season which is quite a travesty to be honest. With a team that boasts of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda, and Juan Mata in their lineup, it is quite surprising that they have been somewhat overly reliant on the 33 year old Lampard, who has been enjoying a fantastic season.
He has been their top scorer this season and has won Chelsea quite a few matches single handedly. His performance against Spain last weekend at Wembley, where he led the three lions was also splendid as Lampard capped it with a goal that won the match for England.
With John Terry facing a police enquiry over allegations of racism, Chelsea find themselves in a corner at the moment and this match may have come too soon for them. He is expected to start alongside David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic, and Ashley Cole in the Chelsea defence as John Obi Mikel, Frank Lampad, and Raul Meireles form the midfield. Torres will lead the line with Mata and either of Malouda or Salomon Kalou on the wings.
Liverpool in the mean time have not had a great streak themselves as they have drawn their past three home games in a row. What will be encouraging for the men in red will be their form away from home. Kenny Daglish has bought some of the best English talent that was available to him alongside Jose Enrique and Luis Suarez to really build a team with great potential.
With Steven Gerrard fit and raring to go, Liverpool are favorites for this match. Suarez should start alone in attack with Stewart Downing and Jordan Dirk Kuyt in the wings. Lucas will play the role of the defensive midfielder while Gerrard and Charlie Adam play in advanced roles.
Glen Johnson should start at right back for the Reds with Enrique on the left. Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel will complete the defensive lineup with Pepe Reina at goal.
The match has come at a good time as far as neutrals are concerned and there is a belief that whoever comes out on top on Sunday will embark upon a positive time in the Barclays Premier League.
