Fulham’s efforts away from home rarely inspire but trips at the moment don’t get any easier than to the DW Stadium and they are worth chancing this weekend.
Like previous managers before him, Fulham boss Martin Jol has been unable to cure the Cottagers’ travel sickness but his team are a cut above Saturday’s opponents and Wigan are in woeful form.
It is just a point away from Craven Cottage so far this season for the Europa League contenders, gained from a goalless draw at West Brom, but Fulham did end the previous campaign with back-to-back wins and have proven in Europe in recent seasons that they are capable of getting a result away the capital.
Defeats already at Wolves, Newcastle and Stoke don’t bode well for their prospects in the north west on Saturday but that trio are difficult to beat on home soil and Wigan’s performances in recent weeks have been wretched.
Following a bright start to the new term it is now seven consecutive defeats for Roberto Martinez’s men and Wigan have conceded 16 goals in that period.
It’s a run that has seen the Latics plummet to nineteenth in the Premier League table and only goal difference is currently keeping them above Blackburn.
The summer departure of Charles N’Zogbia to Aston Villa has dented Wigan’s creativity and Martinez has failed spectacularly in his efforts to replace the French international.
No side has scored less than Wigan’s six goals in the English top flight and Fulham do, on the whole, defend robustly.
Unbeaten in the previous nine clashes between this pair, Fulham are around 2.70 shots to claim maximum points on Saturday.
Siding with them in the draw no bet market might be the way to go however, Boylesports offer 1.80, as the safety net of our money back should this end in a stalemate appeals.
2pts Back Fulham (draw no bet, vs. Wigan) @ 1.80 (Boylesports)
