Five Must-See Football Matches This Weekend

Another weekend of football rolls around but finally it seems the Italian Serie A is here which provides us with our highlight of the next few days.

AC Milan v Lazio

Italian Serie A, Friday 8.45pm (Central European Time)

Italian champions AC Milan open the season at home to one of last season’s surprise packets Lazio. After the delayed start to the new campaign this is an exciting clash.

Milan could offer opportunities to new signings Tawe Taiwo and Philippe Mexes, while the Romans come into the contest with new strike duo Djibril Cisse and Miroslav Klose ready to go.

Arsenal v Swansea City

English Premier League, Saturday 4pm (CET)

The Gunners have started the season poorly with one point from three games, but they’ll be anticipating a big win in this match.

Arsenal’s season has been hurt by the exit of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, but Arsene Wenger invested heavily in new players just before the transfer window closed and this is our first chance to see them in action. Among them are Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Per Mertesacker and Andre Santos. Oh and Swansea might prove plucky too.

Werder Bremen v Hamburg SV

German Bundesliga, Saturday 6.30pm (CET)

Saturday’s late kick-off in Germany is the north-west derby between Werder and Hamburg which is sure to generate some excitement.

Valencia v Atletico Madrid

Spanish La Liga, Saturday 10pm (CET)

Two of Spain’s ‘best of the rest’ hopefuls face off in an intriguing clash on Saturday evening, as Los Che meet the Mattress Makers.

Palermo v Inter Milan

Italian Serie A, Sunday 8.45pm

The opening weekend of the Serie A term offers plenty, but Inter’s trip to Sicily to face the tricky Palermo is an exciting prospect.
