Jerome, who has had many options this season to turn to, will no longer play for the Birmingham side because the club has said that they are not able to afford him any longer.

Birmingham, who finished in the bottom three in the last season’s EPL and were relegated out of the season, have been struggling financially. Part of this problem is due to the fact that the owner Carson Yeung has had his assets frozen.

With the Stoke City manager, Tony Pulis showing interest in Tottenham’s Peter Crouch, it seems to have come across as a surprise that Jerome will be signed up by the Potters after all.

Earlier, there were rumours that Nikolas Bendtner could also join the side, but the problem with the deal was the salary asked by the Danish international.

The other player who could leave the cash-strapped Birmingham club is Nikola Zigic, joining either Red Star Belgrade or Wisla Krakow.

In some other news, Giuseppe Rossi will not move out of Villarreal, after there were rumours that he could move on to Napoli. This was confirmed by Rossi’s agent Federico Pastorello. Earlier, the buzz was that Rossi could go to Barcelona or Juventus during the transfer window, but Villarreal asked for €30 million, something much more than either clubs could afford to pay.

Napoli could be looking to get in Rossi but with Pastorello making it clear that the Spanish club’s owners were not looking to sell him off, the deal seems doubtful. Pastorello said, “Rossi to Napoli at the last minute? He was taken off the market by Villarreal for a number of reasons. Rossi will be at Villarreal for the whole season.”

Napoli has a contract with Villareal till 2015 and will continue to remain with the club.

On the other hand, Antonio Cassano will also continue to remain with AC Milan ahead of the transfer deadline of August 31 today. He has said that he will not move to Fiorentina after getting an offer from there.

The forward, who hasn’t had a great time with AC Milan had earlier expressed interest in moving away but then had a superb pre-season. This meant that he was given a longer rope from the club and Beppe Bozzo, his agent, has said that Fiorentina will continue to remain with the club.

Bozzo said, “I can confirm Fiorentina were interested, but the player wanted to stay with the Rossoneri. Also, Milan never thought about letting him go.”
