Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas, has been, for long, associated with making a move to Barcelona this transfers season. However, it has now been reported that he has said that he will not go out of his way to join the Spanish club, ending some of the speculations about his transfer to Camp Nou for now.
Fabregas, who is only 24 and one of the players Arsenal invested in when he joined them after having been a part of the Barca youth academy, La Masia, has expressed his wish to join the Spanish club again. Even in the last season, it had looked like he would get back to Barcelona after being welcomed by the club.
However, the Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger refused to accept two of the offers that came his way; in turn, requesting Fabregas to stay back.
According to reports, Barcelona have made an offer of €30 million apart from Bojan Krkic and Thiago Alcantara in exchange for Fabregas, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger agrees to it. Interestingly, Barcelona players Gerard Pique and Andres Iniesta have publicly requested Fabregas to join Barcelona. Barcelona, who are being managed by Pep Guardiola, not only won the Spanish League this season but also defeated Manchester United in the final of the Champions League to triumph there.
There is no doubting that Fabregas wants to play for Barcelona, as evidenced by this line; “Ever since I was 11 I have dreamt of playing for Barca. Whether it happens or not, I don’t know,”
Not that Wenger is too impressed, having said that there was no chance of Fabregas moving to Barcelona. He also added that the midfielder will continue to remain Arsenal for a year or so at least.
Arsenal’s poor previous season, where they won no trophies, and did not finish in the top two of the EPL either will be hurting them gravely. Then, to lose a player of Fabregas’ worth would be something that would hit the club greatly and that is something Wenger cannot really afford.
That is probably also one of the reasons why Fabregas wants to shift out. He said, “I’m frustrated at not winning titles. We always fall just before reaching the gates.”
There could be an interesting few days ahead for Fabregas and Wenger as it remains to be seen who he plays for next season.
