4 Manchester City 11
5 Aston Villa 10

Chelsea’s 1-0 loss at Manchester City ended their 100 per cent record in the Premier League and thwarted their dominance. But weekend draws for Manchester United and Liverpool, and Arsenal’s home loss to West Bromwich meant nobody could capitalise.

West Ham’s win over Tottenham moved them off bottom spot, while Everton’s slow start reached a low point after their goalless draw with Fulham saw them slump to last. Liverpool, who drew with Sunderland at home, are 16th.

Spanish La Liga

2 FC Barcelona 12
3 Real Madrid 11
4 Atletico Madrid 10
5 Villarreal 9

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho rued his side’s inability to score after a goalless draw with Levante allowed Valencia to move into top spot after they scored twice early to win 2-0 at Gijon. Barcelona were made to work hard at Athletic Bilbao, eventually winning 3-1.

Deportivo Coruna’s second consecutive loss, 2-0 at home to Almeria, left them in second last with just three points this season. Zaragoza, who lost 1-0 at Atletico Madrid, prop up the table.

Italian Serie A

Pos Team Pts
1 Inter Milan 10
2 Lazio 10
3 Chievo Verona 9
4 Brescia 9
5 AC Milan 8

The top of Serie A has a familiar name with Inter at the summit and they are followed by a Roman outfit, but not the one we all expected with Lazio off to a good start. Lazio’s 1-0 win at Chievo Verona saw them move level on points with Inter who lost this weekend as AS Roma who are still in the drop zone after a slow start.

Udinese have some issues as they’re four points adrift at the bottom after losing 4-2 at Juventus in Sunday’s late kick-off. But it is early days in Italy, which appears wide open at this stage.

German Bundesliga

Pos Team Pts
1 FSV Mainz 18
2 Borussia Dortmund 15
3 Hannover 96 13
4 Hoffenheim 11
5 Bayer Leverkusen 11

Surprise leaders Mainz continued their incredible start to the Bundesliga campaign with a 2-1 win at Bayern Munich which left the champions struggling in ninth. Dortmund continue to mount pressure after a 3-1 victory at St Pauli made it five wins in a row.

Big guns Schalke 04 and VfB Stuttgart incredibly make up the bottom two after awful starts to the season. Felix Magath’s Schalke are slowly getting back on track after losing their opening four matches, while there’s some real concerns for Stuttgart after a 4-1 home loss to Leverkusen.

In-form Dimitry Payet scored the winner as leaders St Etienne made it four consecutive wins with their 1-0 victory over Olympique Lyon on Saturday. Lyon have some real problems, as they are in the bottom three, mounting the pressure on boss Claude Puel.

Champions Marseille moved up to sixth after their 2-1 win over Sochaux made it five games unbeaten. The title race does appear wide open and OM could be on the up. 2009 champs Bordeaux are down in 13th while last season’s third place getters Auxerre are still winless down in 17th.
