Ayala has been with Zaragoza since 2007 when he joined them after leaving Valencia. However, Ayala has not been able to do much and went down to the Segunda Division with them at the end of the 2007-2008 season.

A statement on the club’s official website read, “This afternoon, Real Zaragoza have agreed to terminate the contract of Roberto Fabian Ayala.

“Real Zaragoza appreciates the professionalism, commitment and delivery Ayala has shown while the wearing the shirt of the club, last season as captain. The club want to convey their best wishes, both sporting and personal.”

The 36-year-old is now said to be returning to Argentina.
