Roberto Mancini has departed from the blue and black half of San Siro and Jose Mourinho is more than a foot into it. Italian powerhouse Inter Milan sacked Mancini as their coach on Tuesday evening and paid a compensation fee of almost 30 million euros and now are on the verge of splashing out a 9.5 million euro per season contract to Mourinho.
Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport has quoted the incoming Inter Milan coach as saying that he would like to alter several things at the Italian side. The most widely read newspaper in Italy and certainly the most respected sports paper anywhere in Europe quoted the former Chelsea manager as saying:
“I can’t wait to get started.”
The paper further quoted the 45-year old Portuguese telling his close friends:
“The first day of training will be beautiful. To be able to play and work on tactics, with less gym, less travelling, and less monotonous. I want to change the traditional method of preparation.”
Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in September 2007 for not being able to procure the UEFA Champions League title and it is precisely to win the elite European trophy that Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has decided to sign the self-acclaimed Special One. Can he do it? The debate has only just started.
