Alexandre Negrao
Nicknamed Xandi, Alexandre Negrao began racing with go-karts, and remained in that arena from 1998 till 2002, in Brazil. During this period he also won the championship once. Negrao soon graduated to South American Formula Three championship, and joined up with the Piquet Sports team, which was fresh from a championship win with Nelson Piquet Jr. just the previous season. Negrao underwent the two year program in the SudAm F3, in his second year, in 2004 repeated his predecessor’s performance to clinch the championship title. The title was a result of his ten race wins.
In 2004, Negrao also participated in two races in the British Formula Three championship, gaining additional experience. The next year, Negrao increased his list of achievements by becoming the youngest winner of the 1000 Milhas Brasilieras endurance race. Following this achievement Negrao made a jump into the inaugural GP2 series, where he stayed on for the remaining three seasons. 2007 was his best in GP2 Series, with his first podium finish, in second place during the Sprint race in Turkey, at the Istanbul Park circuit.
Negrao’s first experience with A1 GP came in October, 2006, when he was selected to be the rookie driver for A1 Team Brazil, in Brno, Czech Republic. He will once again race for the team in 2008, for the Durban race.
