Spaniard Dani Sordo, his co-driver Marc Marti and the pair’s Citroen C4 WRC made a star appearance at the Spanish leg of the Red Bull X-Fighters tour at the weekend.
A week after his winning performance at the OK Auto-Rally in Finland, Citroen Total World Rally Team drivers were invited to inaugurate the freestyle motocross competition by driving their Red-Bull sponsored cars around the main arena. The arena was built within Madrid’s spiritual home of bullfighting, the Plaza de toros de las ventas.
In front of a 25000-member strong audience, Sordo zoomed and spun his car around the loose surface arena performing a number of doughnuts and a series of high speed circuits amongst the jumps and obstacles.
As if to prove that even rally cars can do a bit of motocross stunts, he powered his way up the main central bike ramp and took to the air with his rally car.
Currently running in at fifth in the FIA World Rally Championship, Sordo stayed on after his run, to watch the contest.”I’ve never done anything like this before but it was a fantastic experience,” he said. “The welcome we got from the crowd was incredible - I enjoyed the whole thing”
