McLaren’s new Mexican driver Sergio Perez has recorded the fastest lap on the second day of Formula One testing at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Perez recorded an excellent time of one minute and 21.848 seconds to be the best of the pack at the Spanish Grand Prix track.
Earlier, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel had been the quickest, but ended his session early.
“We had some issues with reliability today and we couldn’t do as many laps as we wanted,” he said.
“It was nothing disastrous, just small things that hampered us today.”
Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest, while Lewis Hamilton came in fourth ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.
“We had a good day and it was nice to get so many laps in,” said Hamilton, who is now with Mercedes. “We’re making continual steps forward in terms of our understanding of the set-up and the tyres.
“The guys are working really hard both here and at the factory and it’s encouraging to see the amount of work that’s being put in. We’re focusing on our own programme and just getting on with it.”
