Kubica Comeback Not Close Yet
Article info

Former Sauber and Renault driver Robert Kubica admits he’s a long way away from a return to Formula One racing despite returning to the cockpit last week.

The 28-year-old Pole suffered serious injuries in his right hand in a crash in a rally vehicle in Andorra in early 2011 and hasn’t been able to return to racing since.

However, Kubica was back behind the wheel of a DTM Mercedes race car in Valencia last week.

“I have big injuries, so there is still a long way to go for my health and my body,” Kubica told DTM’s online TV channel. “But yeah, slowly it is getting better. Of course, it has needed time.

“This test was just to get a feeling of the car and see how it looks and how it is to drive a DTM car. Overall I feel comfortable in the car which is good. That is always important, especially if you only have a short time to adapt.”
