Despite sustaining a wrist injury at the US Open held in Torrey Pines, British golfer Luke Donald is still hopeful about making it on Nick Faldo’s 12-man team for the Ryder Cup in September. The injury, diagnosed as a subluxation of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon, left Donald out of action for the succeeding months and as a result, prevented him from playing in the British Open at Royal Birkdale.
Donald ranks 10th on the world points list for the Ryder Cup, where only the top 5 players are automatically included to play on the team. According to a statement, he revealed his hopes for Valhalla despite the injury, although the outcome is still too early to say.
Faldo, for his part, revealed in an interview that if Donald does get picked, he will be one of the two wild cards on the 12-man team. He expressed his hope for an honest opinion from the British player about his physical status in a month. “He is a good balanced guy who would give me an honest opinion,” Faldo said in an interview.
Donald has played in Europe’s last two victories, reached the top 10 in Golf world rankings in 2006 and at 7th place, was briefly the highest-ranked European golfer in 2007.
