Woods Returns To Golf Summit

Tiger Woods says he’s delighted to be world’s golf number one player again after his triumph at the Arnold Palmer Invitational saw him return to the summit of the sport.

The 37-year-old American overtook Rory McIlroy as world number one, for the first time since his private life scandal became public in late 2009, with a two stroke victory at Bay Hill.

“I’m very pleased with the way I’m playing,” said Woods.

“It was a by-product of hard work, patience and getting back to playing golf tournaments.

“I’ve turned some of the weaknesses that I had last year into strengths. I’m really excited about the rest of this year.”

Meanwhile, McIlroy claimed he was relieved to lose the number one tag, with Woods deflected the attention away from him.

“I guess, at the minute yeah, with me trying to get my game back to where I think it can be,” the Northern Irishman said.

“It’s nice, not to just go about my business and no one cares, but to go about it and not be the most talked about person in golf.”
