Taiwanese golfer Yani Tseng got a pleasant surprise after she won the Australian Ladies Masters by four strokes last week. The win placed her on the no. 1 rank in women’s golf after finishing with a 24-under-par total of 264, running ahead of Aussie golfer Nikki Campbell who shot a final 64 and Stacey Lewis who managed a 69. The two players tied for second, while Ryann O’Toole placed fourth after scoring 69, lagging six strokes behind Tseng.
Tseng had previously won the Australian Open at the Commonwealth club in Melbourne. Not seen in the Masters was former no.1 Ji-yai Shin. The South Korean tied for second at the Aussie Open but did not participate in the Australian Ladies Masters. Others who played include Karrie Webb. The seven-time Masters champion shot a final 67 and lagged eight strokes behind the lead. The 22-year old Tseng was on shaky ground when her lead was reduced to two, with Lewis and Campbell following closely behind after she made a bogey on the seventh. She strengthened her lead with a birdie on the par-5 ninth followed by another birdie at the par-5 12th.
