Jim Furyk won the FedEx cup on Sunday after an amazing bunker save. In addition to the sterling silver FedEx cup, Furyk also went home with the crystal Tour Championship trophy.
This comes as a great victory for Furyk after he found himself with only a one-shot lead and stuck in a very deep bunker. He hit the ball in a clean shot and watched it fly towards the flag. It stopped 2 and ½ feet away from the hole giving him a par and a single shot victory over runner-up Luke Donald.
Having what is perhaps the best year for his career, Furyk placed his name together with greats like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. Winning the Tour Championship gives him three victories for this season.
Furyk who finished with a par 70 has this to stay “It just hit me, I was excited and dropped the putter and … I don’t know. I guess at that moment, you’re not really responsible for what happens next.’’
He goes home with the $1.35 million championship price and the $10 million for the FedEx cup. His win also helped him move to No.5 in the world ranking.
“It’s only four years old” said Furyk of his FedEx Cup. “’But 40 years from now, there should be a lot of history in this trophy.”
