The 91st PGA Championship has declares Yang Yong-en as the title holder. The 37-year-old Korean is the first Asian-born golfer to win a major tournament. This is such a breakthrough for Asians especially in the sport of golf. He defeated the World’s No. 1, Tiger Woods who made quite a disappointing performance. He was holding a 110 ranking however, moved up to World No. 34 after he won the tournament at the Hazeltine National Golf Club.
After making his winning putt, Yang celebrated his victory with a shout of joy.
“I tried to master the art of controlling my emotions throughout the small wins I had in my career,” Yang said. “I think it turned out quite well today.”
This victory earned him $1.35 million, plus adding his name on the International Team which will be on October for the Presidents Cup in San Francisco.
On the other hand, Woods made errors one after the other.
“I did everything I needed to do, except for getting the ball in the hole,” Woods said. “Just didn’t make the putts when I needed to make them… I played well enough the entire week to win the championship. You have to make putts. I didn’t do that. Today was a day that didn’t happen.”
This could have been Woods’ 5th title but instead it turned out to be his second loss.
