Davis Love III has secured a spot for himself at this year’s British Open after scoring 67- 65 to secure one of eight spots during the US qualifiers. Known as one of the oldest and biggest golfing tournaments in the world, this year’s British Open is scheduled for July 16-19.
The qualifier was led by Matt Kuchar with a 13-under-129 followed by Jeff Overton. Love III walked behind with James Driscoll, Richard Johnson, Martin Laird and Fredrik Jacobson.
Kuchar was playing 7 –under through 15 holes before he boogied at the 16th hole, closing the morning round with two finish. He then opened the afternoon with two birdies in the three opening holes before finishing with a 66. Jeff Overton, who made three eagles over 36 was thrilled to make it as well. He had tied for 70th place at last year’s tournament in Royal Birkdale.
That was my first major. It was a dream come true. I’m from Indiana, so I like the wind and all the weather. It’s a lot of fun,” Overton said of last year’s tournament.
The highest ranked player at the qualifier was Ben Crane who failed to qualify after missing one shot, along with Jesper Parnevik and US amateur Danny Lee.
