Paul Casey ranked 43st at the start of the year, a far cry to the no. 3 spot that the 31-year old is now enjoying right after shooting two birdies to win the BMW PGA championship on Sunday.
He clinched the title with a curling four-footer, something he acknowledged was a hard thing to do but he managed to accomplish nonetheless.
“It was not an easy putt but no putt to win a title ever is,” Casey said of his winning shot.
The match was a close one between Casey and Ross Fisher who had completed a 64, his best for the week. Casey had also finished as a runner up at the Accenture Match Play championship held in Arizona. He had also the Match Play in 2006. This win is just the third addition to the matches earned this year, which include the Abu Dhabi and Houston titles he had won earlier in the year.
The tournament has been known by the likes of such greats as Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Ian Woosnam, a list Casey felt honored to be a part of.
“There are some impressive names on that trophy. So it’s nice to be part of that history,” Casey said of his win. Casey finished on 271 with Ross Fisher finishing at 272.
