Fearlessly striking her straight bogey-free-8-under 65, Lorena Ochoa, defending champion took a three-stroke lead against Suzann Pettersen on Friday at the LPGA tour’s Corona Championship.
Ochoa is a Mexican top ranker who won the tournament at Tres Maria’s in 2006 that lead the par-5 eight hole and six birdies.
On Saturday, Ochoa and Pettersen are said to play together for that match and Pettersen said that she’s very excited and hoped to play good rounds. Yani Tseng, a second ranking player also commented that Lorena is a really good player and have displayed excellent plays this week.
Also, Michelle Wie said that she was frustrated with his play against Ochoa on Thursday by being a stroke behind after 66. Ochoa got her 25th LPGA tour title from a victory in the Honda LPGA in Thailand, thus opening her season. She was skyrocketing with an excellent ball-striking round on Friday that hit a wedge to a foot on No.1 and even in a 9-iron for up to 2 feet on the No.5 just enough to set her first birdies.
She was also able to strike a 7-iron to 3 feet on the eighth for the eagle. After that, on the back nine, a two-putted for birdie on the par-5 10th was also to hit a wedge to a foot o the No.12 and strike 9-irons to 4 feet on No.13 and 15.
Ochoa also stated that she should not be confident in a win until a last putt falls in. on the previous year; she had won matches through her 11 strokes hitting 66-66-66-69 to get the game done at 25-under.
