Houston, USA – Winner of two Major Championships Padraig Harrington received favorable votes from the Golf Writers Association of America. The total tally of votes came out with a 75% favor on Harrington, making him the player of the year – ending the three-year standing of Tiger Woods.
Harrington was not the only player who received good votes since Lorena Ochoa got an overwhelming number of votes for the choice female player of the year. On the other hand, Jay Haas came out with a record of being the first ever golf player to have won the senior player of the year thrice successively.
After successfully defended his title while playing at the British Open, Harrington added another Major championship when he managed to win the PGA Championship that came right after the British Open.
As for the voting, Woods got only 58 votes while Harrington received 184 votes. Vijay Singh was also in the voting, but he received only 5 votes. For the past three years, Woods had the award in his name, and over the course of his career, he has won the award nine times. This would be Harrington’s first.
Ochoa and Haas is not without glory for their awards are fruits of their hard work. Ochoa had won seven times within this year, which includes a Major win at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. This award is currently her third consecutive win. Haas, has won the Champions Tour two times as well as the Senior PGA Championship, and other great tournaments.
