Tiger Woods’ sponsor General Motors ended its connection with the athlete, and with that end Woods is now searching for his new sponsor.>
The new sponsor, however, will not be in the automobile business, says Woods’ agent. Mike Steinberg said that the odds of Woods adding another car manufacturer to his line of sponsorships are “highly unlikely.” Currently, the No. 1 player is sponsored by Gatorade, Gillette, Tag Heuer, Nike, and other companies.
Woods’ camp believes that jumping from one automobile sponsor to another would be disrespectful to General Motors. Despite the end of the sponsorship, General Motors and Woods had a great relationship, and their parting was in amicable terms.
Another factor that Steinberg said was the reason why they will not be choosing a sponsor from the automobile industry is its volatility.
Reports indicate that Woods’ deal with General Motors’ Buick was one year, with a remaining $8 million.
So far, there has been no news no any decision as to which brand will take over the General Motors’ Buick logo on Woods’ golf bag. However, Steinberg expects that there will be a new sponsor logo on Woods’ golf back soon enough. This would be shown hopefully by the time Woods steps back onto the green by March.
