While the world is buzzing that Annika Sörenstam is retiring, the 38-year-old Swede says she is merely “stepping away.”
There are only a handful of events left before the player “steps away” from the golf course, and the end of the season. However, it seems that Sorenstam might be preparing for a comeback.
She has stated that she is not exactly closing the door of her career. In fact, that is why she has repeatedly refused to use the word “retire” as she is still open to the possibility of coming back in a few years.
Sorenstam is getting married in January, and she expects that her personal life will keep her busy. Of course, she has her golf course designing, clothing line, foundation, and golf academy to keep her life after golf occupied.
She says she will not miss the rigors of professional golf such as gym sessions, practice, and pressures for success. After playing golf for so long, Sorenstam believes that she has enjoyed her time playing golf, and is now quite satisfied with what she has greatly achieved.
However, despite what she says, it is evident that she has some reservations. This is why she has refused to use the “R” word and using “stepping away” in its place.
