David Patten
David Patten is a former American football player. Post his college football for Western Carolina, wide receiver Patten signed with Arena Football League team, Albany Firebirds in 1996. He then inked a deal with the New York Giants, playing with them from 1997 through 1999.
In 2000, he was a member of the Cleveland Browns and from 2001-2004 he played wideout for the New England Patriots. During this period he appeared in and won three Super Bowls. In 2005, he signed a five year deal with the Washington Redskins of $13 million dollar contract, playing with them through the 2006 season.
Post his release from the Redskins, he joined New Orleans Saints for a one year deal, catching 54 passes for 794 yards and 3 touchdowns. He signed with the Browns for the second time on 23rd March 2009 and was released on 5th September, 2009. By 2010, he signed with the Patriots team. On 31st July, 2010, Patten announced his retirement on the 3rd day of the Patriots 2010 training camp.
In 11 NFL seasons, Patten has played in 142 games, making 313 receptions for 4,553 yards and 24 touchdowns. Averaging 14.6 YPC, Patten has made 206 first downs. He's fumbled five times, losing two. Although rarely used on kick returns now, he has made 109 returns for 2,253 yards and one TD.
The five-foot-ten, 192-pound Patten is a solid player with fine leadership skills. The veteran still possesses a quick release and is adroit at getting off the line. He's an excellent route runner who excels at the comeback, post and deep take-off routes. Patten has worked hard and improved over the years. His ability to elude tackles and intangibles are both very good. On the small side, Patten can be hampered by large cornerbacks. His hands are not always as dependable as one would like. Still, he is a good receiver who shows a strong upside.
