Quarterback Ryan Joseph Fitzpatrick is presently the backup for Bengals’ signal caller Carson Palmer. After playing football for Harvard, Fitzpatrick was taken by the St. Louis Rams as the 250th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

After spending two seasons with the Rams, Fitzpatrick was traded to Cincinnati in 2007 for a seventh round 2008 NFL Draft pick. He signed a one-year deal with the Bengals in 2008 as a restricted free agent.

Subsequently, on 27th February, 2009, Ryan signed with the Buffalo Bills making his first appearance for the team on 18th October, 2009 against the New York Jets. He led the team to a 16-13 overtime victory, while throwing for 116 yards with one interception and one touchdown.

Fitzpatrick has seen action in five NFL games, going 76 of 135 (56.3-percent) and passing for 777 yards. He’s tossed four TDs and eight INTs. His rating is 58.2. As of 2010, he made 41 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. With passing yards of 6,488, his quarterback rate was 73.2.

At six-foot-two and 225-pounds, Fitzpatrick is decent sized in terms of bulk but could use a few more inches when it comes to height. He’s got good tools and is extremely smart. He’s quick moving back from the snap to find his throwing mark. His deep throws lose velocity and tend to be off mark. He needs to take more snaps to develop confidence in the pocket and better field vision. Because he’s relatively short, it’s tough for him to see over players and find passing lanes.
