The period between which cricket is played in the year is called the cricket season. As cricket is an outdoor sport, the cricket season is usually the driest months in the year. As the weather varies in different parts of the globe cricket seasons too vary. The Northern Hemisphere cricket season is usually denoted with a single year; e.g. 1948 English summer season. The Southern Hemisphere cricket seasons are denoted with two years separated by a dash; e.g. 1948-49 Australian summer season.
