Bail

The bails are two small wooden sticks placed on top of the three stumps to form the wicket. The bail is cylindrical in shape and tapers towards its ends. One end of the bail is always longer than the other as the longer end is placed on the leg or off wicket while the short end is placed on the mid wicket. The umpires usually use heavier bails when the weather is windy to prevent it from falling off on its own.
